Library Mission & History

The mission and history of Oregon Public Library.

The mission of Oregon Public Library is to serve the citizens of Southern Holt County with resources and services for learning and fun.

The library system holds approximately 12,047 books.  Read a magazine or browse through our genealogy books.

The Oregon Public Library was created in the 1938 by local citizens seeing the need for a free community library. The library was started in the back of the old post office (which was the former King & Proud building) with the books stored in orange crates.  The Library moved to the present location in 1948.
